Agios Nikolaos - a popular resort
To the west of the picturesque Mirabello Bay, on a fairly small peninsula city spread Agios Nikolaos (St. Nicholas), a "capital" of Santorini. At the heart of the city formed a unique natural lake Vulismeni whose depth is about 67 meters. According to legend, the waters of the lake water treatments took the goddess Athena.
In the city on a permanent basis has approximately 10 000 inhabitants, but with the advent of the tourist season Agios miraculously transformed: the streets are filled with fun and carefree laughter, and in cafes and restaurants there are no free seats. No wonder this resort has no equal in the number of guests on the island of Crete. Despite the very rapid development of the tourism industry, this small town has managed to retain their original unique look.
